Send a residential lease, get it signed on the tenant's phone, and store the signed PDF in your LetSignal dashboard. ECTA-aligned. POPIA-defensible. No print-and-scan, no third-party signing tool.
If you're still emailing a lease, asking the tenant to print-sign-scan-return, and then chasing the missing initial on page 4, you know how this ends:
You shouldn't need a printer just to close a lease.
The same dashboard. The same audit trail. The lease lives where the application and the FICA pack already do.
Upload the lease PDF, mark the signature and initial fields, send to the tenant by email or WhatsApp. Done in the time it takes to open Word.
Tenant opens the link on their phone, reads the lease, signs in-app, and submits. No print-and-scan. No external signing service login. Mobile-first, like the rest of LetSignal.
Signed lease and audit trail save to the property and tenant record automatically. ZIP the application, FICA, and signed lease together for the file.
For residential leases under ten years, yes. The Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA) recognises electronic signatures as valid for most contracts, including short-term residential leases. The Formalities in Respect of Leases of Land Act 18 of 1969 only requires written-and-signed formalities for long-term leases - those of ten years or more - which are out of scope for almost every residential rental.
LetSignal's lease signing will produce ECTA-aligned electronic signatures with a tamper-evident audit trail timestamping every action: when the lease was sent, when it was opened, when each field was signed, and when the signed PDF was generated. That's the record you produce if a tenant later disputes a signature.
For long-term leases (ten years and over), the Formalities Act requires the lease to be in writing and signed by both parties - and traditional handwritten signatures remain the safer route. LetSignal will flag the lease term during setup and warn you if you're outside the supported scope.
ECTA's section 13 confirms that electronic signatures are admissible as evidence and cannot be denied legal effect solely because they are in electronic form. The combination of a captured signature, a tamper-evident audit trail, and a saved PDF is the same legal posture banks rely on for digital onboarding.
LetSignal does not provide legal advice. Compliance with ECTA, the Formalities Act, and any sector-specific regulation remains the responsibility of the firm.
Lease signing closes the loop on the LetSignal flow.
Applicant fills in the structured form, uploads documents, and pays the application fee. Available now.
Every party to the lease completes FICA on their phone. Available now.
The lease is sent, signed, and saved against the property record. Coming soon.
The tenant never needs a different login. The agent never leaves the dashboard.
We're building lease signing for residential leases first, then commercial. The priority is getting the legal posture right - ECTA-aligned signatures, defensible audit trail, saved PDFs that hold up in a tenancy dispute - before chasing edge cases like multi-party guarantor signing.

We do not have a public ship date yet. Waitlist signups will be the first to hear when we open the first cohort, and we offer first-cohort pricing to firms that signed up early.
No. Lease signing is part of LetSignal - same dashboard, same audit trail, same retention rules. You will not need a DocuSign or SignNow subscription on the side.
ECTA defines two signature types: ordinary electronic signatures and advanced electronic signatures (AES, the kind verified by an accredited authority like LAWtrust or SAPO Trust Centre). Residential leases under ten years do not require AES - an ordinary electronic signature with a tamper-evident audit trail is sufficient. AES is required for documents like a Suretyship under the National Credit Act, which is why LetSignal will flag those scenarios separately.
The signed PDF and the audit trail save to the property record and the tenant record. You can download the PDF, ZIP the full lease bundle (application + FICA + lease), or hand the file to your auditor.
Yes. The lease can be sent to multiple signers in sequence or in parallel, each with their own signature fields. The audit trail records which party signed what, when.
